Football Crazy: Zawngia retires from his professional football career

Zawngia declares his retirement and last match is a kick off Final match today with B.D.- III (New Course) at the Shri. Late Rapthap Memorial Football Tournament and this will be the end of his profession career. Yet he is still hoped to be as a coach in future.

Zawngia is the present coach of the B.D.-III (Final Year) Team. As soon as he joined the Seminary, he has been appointed as the coach since 2009 and won the Runner-up Trophy in the last two seasons. Though he had already appealed to resign from the post before starting this Tournament, but still continues his job due to the request of the players.



The reason for his retirement, he says that his age is the main reason which is level with David Beckham and Ronaldo of Brazil. Moreover, he has been suffered from groin injuries since 2008 and becoming overweight, now more than 75 kg.

Zawngia told the Maraland Post, “Football is fantastic, it is not about whether I play or not. I like it. I enjoy not only to play, but watching the game as well. I will always be a football fan.”

He also added, “Though I don’t have any coaching experience before, it is interesting job to be with professional footballers. I love the job and my team and also hope to continue in my future ministry.”
Zawngia is not only experiencing in football, but also in Volleyball. He is one of the Champion Team in last Seminary Annual Sport held in the year 2010 and also the former coach of Khopai Volley Club, the Runner up winning Team in District level Volleyball Tournament organized by the Saiha District Volleyball Association in the year 2005.

He is a very talented athlete. He won a number of trophies and medal in the past. He is now Seeded No. 3 in Table Tennis and the Seeded No.1 in Chess also.
Besides games and sports, he plays a leading role in arts and music. In musical ministry, he is a player of Keyboard, Guitar, Bass Guitar and Electronic Drum. He is also a well-known artist in Meghalaya region.

Nice one. All good things must come to an end without an exception to all good footballers' heydays too. Perhaps, it is called the journey of life on this earth.

However, footballer Zawngia will be greatly missed by his fans, friends and foes alike in Maraland and beyond. Keep updating!
